Programs of Study

A College Career Academies program of study consists of coherent and rigorous coursework that includes both academic and technical content that aligns secondary education with postsecondary education in order to help prepare the student for success at the postsecondary level leading to an industry-recognized credential, diploma, certificate, or degree in a specific career field.

The program must include a sequence of at least 6 semesters of career and technical coursework in a specific career area and must meet Iowa’s high school graduation requirements.

The program may also include work-based and/or workplace learning experiences. Students are also encouraged to become involved with a student organization

The purpose of a program of study is to provide students with competency-based, applied learning that contributes to academic knowledge, higher order thinking skills, reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, leadership and knowledge of all aspects of industry including entrepreneurship.

The goal of the programs of study is to lead students to placement in high-skill, high-wage, and/or high-demand employment or to further education.

Program of study templates have been designed for each career cluster. These include high school coursework, available college credit coursework, and additional activities.
