Health Science Expo Helps Area High School Students Focus on Future Careers
Council Bluffs, IA - On Tuesday, April 29, sophomores, juniors and seniors from eighteen area high schools will join metro area business leaders to focus on a future career in health science.
The Health Science Expo is part of a greater effort to develop the regional workforce by preparing students to be college and career ready to compete in the global, high-tech marketplace.
The Health Science Expo is sponsored by the College Career Academies which are a partnership of Iowa Western Community College, Loess Hills Area Education Agency 13, southwest Iowa high schools, and local businesses.
This year's expo is a pilot event being held at the Looft Hall Auditorium at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. Students from eighteen of the region's 33 high schools will be participating between 9 a.m and 2 p.m.
They will be hearing personal stories from business leaders regarding their careers and discover more about a future career in health science. Students have the opportunity to participate in mock job interviews judged by participating businesses.
Area businesses are participating as expo presenters, mock job interviewers, volunteer workers and sponsors of expo competition prizes. Businesses presenting at this year's IT Expo include Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Audiology Services and Hearing Aid Center, IWCC EMS, Alegent Health Mercy Hospital, Loess Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross, Griswold Telephone Company, Volunteer Council Bluffs, CyaNet Sports and DARMEDIA.
